
AN ELITE ACADEMY FOR ADVANCED TEACHER EDUCATION

The original focus of The Center for Better Schools was to complete a feasibility study, and if practical a plan to build a new program for our nation’s best teachers. It would entail an entirely new method of delivering advanced teacher education to a select group of early career, high performing classroom teachers, who are ready to make a commitment to the classroom teaching profession. We are pleased to report that with the completion of this work, we have answered the key questions, developed a comprehensive Launch Plan (available upon request) for an Advanced Teacher Education Academy and have recently launched a second phase of work on the actual curricular design and course content of such a program. Teamed with leading public school districts and nationally recognized public charter school operators, we have formed a project team to design and develop course content aimed at improving the effectiveness of experienced, high performing teachers. The first phase of this development effort, funded in part by national school reform philanthropy, is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2011.
